Wike’s men ignore Tinubu’s directive as PDP secretariat remains sealed

The President had given defaulters 14-day grace to pay the ground rent with a penalty of N2m. He also advised them to regularise all their land titles before the deadline.

Over 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu ordered the unsealing of properties locked for unpaid ground rent, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national headquarters in Abuja remains padlocked. Despite the President’s 14-day grace period for defaulters to pay with a N2 million penalty, FCTA officials have yet to reopen the opposition party’s office. When Daily Trust visited the Wuse Zone 5 premises on Wednesday, the gate was still sealed, with party staff stranded outside.

A PDP staff member, speaking anonymously, alleged bias: “FCTA officials unsealed other properties like FIRS and Ibro Hotel but drove past our office.” The delay has sparked suspicions of political motives, as other affected properties were reopened shortly after Tinubu’s intervention.

The FCTA has not commented on why the PDP office remains locked. Meanwhile, party members lament the disruption, urging authorities to comply with the presidential directive. The development raises questions about equitable enforcement of the administration’s policies.
