Edo has consistently been a top contributor to diaspora inflows since 2017, when $6 billion of the $22 billion total came from the state.
The Director-General of the Edo State Diaspora Agency, Loretta Ogboro-Okor, says the state now contributes an estimated 31% of Nigeria’s total diaspora remittances, amounting to $7 billion in 2024 alone.
In a phone interview on Tuesday, Ms Ogboro-Okor said Edo has consistently been a top contributor to diaspora inflows since 2017, when $6 billion of the $22 billion total came from the state.
“Edo has played a critical role in diaspora contributions… $6 billion in 2017, and by 2024, $7 billion. That’s a remarkable 31 per cent of the national total,’’ she stated.
She attributed this to the resilience of Edo indigenes and their strong family values. “The money they remit is transforming lives, uplifting families, and driving development in communities,” she added.
She highlighted outreach campaigns in Italy and praised Governor Monday Okpebholo’s commitment to diaspora engagement.
Ogboro-Okor urged continued diaspora support for development, reaffirming that citizen welfare remains a core priority.
