President Bola Tinubu has pledged to exempt education and healthcare from Value Added Tax (VAT) in a move aimed at reducing costs for Nigerian families. The policy, announced during his second-anniversary address, would remove the current 7.5% VAT on school fees, books, and related services. Experts say the waiver could lower tuition fees and boost investment in the education sector.
“Zero tax on education means institutions won’t pay taxes on income, potentially reducing costs for students,” said Isaac Agenyi, a business analyst. Media strategist Friday Erhabor added: “This 7.5% subsidy on education spending will significantly help low-income families.”
