INEC has announced June 20 and August 8, 2026, for the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections respectively.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections for June 20 and August 8, 2026, respectively.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this on Friday at the swearing-in of six new Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Abuja. He said party primaries for Ekiti will run from October 20 to November 10, 2025, while Osun’s will hold from November 24 to December 15.

Yakubu stated, “In line with the requirements of the law, the commission is under legal obligation to publish the notices for major elections not later than 360 days before the date fixed for the election.”

He added that final lists of candidates will be published in January and March 2026, with campaigns to end 24 hours before voting.

On the new RECs, Yakubu warned: “You must never act independently… We will hold you accountable for your actions.”

He also promised imminent updates on 17 pending by-elections and the resumption of voter registration
