The Celestial Church of Christ, El Morijah Parish, Lagos, has emerged winner of the 2024 Oshoffa Juvenile Choir Competition, clinching the $2,000 grand prize. The event, held at the Agip Hall, MUSON Centre, Lagos, featured 10 finalists from Nigeria and the Benin Republic in a musical contest honouring the 40th remembrance of CCC founder, SBJ Oshoffa. Ijaye Olifi and Ibara parishes secured second and third places, winning N500,000 and N250,000 respectively.
The competition began with 47 parishes, narrowing down to 10 for the finale after a series of elimination rounds. Brother Demola Bolaji, leader of True Word in Season, which sponsored the event, said, “I went to pray and I saw Papa Oshoffa… He said, ‘Translate the Yoruba Hymn Book… and celebrate me well for the 40th anniversary.’”
Gospel artiste Seyi Solagbade noted, “This competition is about redirecting the youths and preparing them musically and spiritually.”
