Trump says he’s “not troubled” by Elon Musk’s alleged drug use, but White House insiders reportedly welcomed his exit after months of headline-grabbing controversies.
President Donald Trump on Friday downplayed reports of Elon Musk’s alleged drug use, even as White House officials reportedly expressed relief over his exit.
Musk was accused in a New York Times report of using ketamine, ecstasy, mushrooms, and Adderall while on the campaign trail and during his brief stint leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Asked if he was aware of the drug claims, Trump told reporters: “No, I wasn’t. I think he’s fantastic… Did a great job.”
Yet behind the scenes, some White House officials are “happy” to see Musk go, said CNN analyst Maggie Haberman. “He was a source of consternation,” she noted, citing his social media spats and unverified claims about cutting Social Security waste.
The billionaire’s exit follows 130 turbulent days in government. Despite this, Trump said Friday: “Elon’s really not leaving… It’s his baby, and I think he’s going to be doing a lot of things.”
The report dropped hours before Trump’s steel rally in Pennsylvania.
