A woman has been sentenced for drug driving after being found with a cocaine breakdown product in her system.

Rachel Roper, 38, of Birch Grove, Garswood, pleaded guilty at Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 27. She admitted driving a BMW on Cross Lane, Newton-le-Willows, with a level of benzoylecgonine— a cocaine metabolite— exceeding the legal limit.

The court disqualified her from driving for 12 months. She was also fined £80, ordered to pay £85 in court costs, and a £32 victim surcharge.

Her guilty plea was considered during sentencing.

Benzoylecgonine is a substance that remains in the bloodstream after cocaine use and can result in a drug-driving charge even when the driver is no longer under the influence.
