Barcelona have opened talks to sign Thomas Partey with Hansi Flick reportedly backing the move. The Arsenal midfielder enters the final month of his contract.

Barcelona have opened talks with representatives of Thomas Partey as the Arsenal midfielder nears the end of his contract at the Emirates Stadium.

Partey, 31, has entered the final month of his deal and has yet to be offered an extension, despite manager Mikel Arteta saying, “I think consistency-wise it’s been his best season… he’s a really important player for us.”

According to The Sun, new Barcelona boss Hansi Flick is a “big admirer” of Partey and has sanctioned the move. However, the La Liga side face a challenge convincing Partey to leave north London.

“Thomas respects Arsenal massively and loves living in London,” a source said, “but he also knows his worth and wants a deal that reflects his standing at the club.”

Partey, signed from Atletico Madrid in 2021 for £45m, has also attracted interest from Juventus, Besiktas, and former club Atletico. He made 167 appearances for Arsenal and played a key role in their Champions League run this season.
