A woman took to Reddit after being left in economy class during a 14-hour flight while her partner and his brothers were upgraded to business class. Traveling on staff benefits from her partner’s airline-employed mother, the group initially expected to sit together. However, when upgrades were offered, the woman was left behind.
“My partner asked if I could be upgraded too, but there wasn’t space,” she wrote. Grieving the recent death of a friend’s child and stressed about work, she told him, “I was anxious and didn’t want to sit alone.” Still, he chose the upgrade.
She recalled, “We boarded soon after, and I was in tears telling him I didn’t want to sit alone.” Neither of his brothers offered to swap seats.
Though she later told him she was “grateful for the staff travel,” she was upset. “Even if he’d offered to stay, I would’ve insisted he take the upgrade,” she said.
