Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, has donated N20 million and a trailer of food items to victims of flooding in Mokwa Local Government Area, Niger State.

At least 153 lives were lost in the disaster, which displaced thousands. During his visit on Monday, Obi said the donation would assist injured victims and bereaved families. “I pray for the repose of the souls of the departed victims and for God to grant their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” he said.

He also urged international and national support for the affected communities.

Receiving him, Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, who represented Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, thanked Obi for his “kindness and love for humanity.”

Earlier, the governor’s wife, Fatima Umaru Bago, also visited and announced a personal donation of N50 million to aid recovery efforts.
