John Obi Mikel has called on Victor Osimhen to reject a move to Saudi Arabia, urging him to pursue a Premier League transfer instead, citing the striker’s prime career years.
Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has urged Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen to prioritise a move to the Premier League over Saudi Arabia, describing a potential switch to the Middle East as premature.
“I don’t want to see him in Saudi right now because he still has so much to offer in Europe. It would be a shame to see him go there,” Mikel told Metro.
Osimhen, 26, is set to return to Napoli after a prolific loan spell at Galatasaray, where he netted 37 goals in 41 appearances. However, strained relations with Napoli have prompted interest from Galatasaray and Saudi club Al-Hilal.
Mikel revealed his disappointment that Chelsea didn’t sign Osimhen, saying the club opted for Liam Delap instead. He sees Arsenal or Manchester United as realistic destinations.
“I think the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United, they still need a striker,” Mikel said. “I hope there is still a Premier League move for him this summer.”
