A Cuban woman known on TikTok as @maite\_oshun has shared a deeply emotional testimony of her migration from Cuba to the United States, highlighting her spiritual devotion to the Yoruba religion.

“The only thing I took with me from Cuba when I left was my fortune teller,” she said. Referring to the sacred figure as her “gypsy,” Maite described how she carried the image tied to her body through multiple countries in Central America. “I managed to carry out my entire journey really well,” she added, attributing her safe passage to spiritual protection.

However, upon reaching the U.S. border, immigration authorities confiscated the object. “Just imagine how much I suffered having to leave it behind,” she recounted tearfully.

Her story has gone viral, resonating with hundreds on social media, many praising her unwavering faith.

Maite’s experience reflects the broader journey of many Cubans who migrate not only with hopes and belongings, but also with sacred symbols that anchor their spiritual and cultural identity.
