The 20-year-old, who played at Chelsea’s Cobham academy as a youth, has impressed since joining Dortmund from Manchester City in 2020. Gittens has made over 100 appearances for the Bundesliga side, contributing 17 goals and 14 assists.
According to CaughtOffside, the Blues have resumed talks after showing interest in January and are keen to bring the England youth international back to SW6. Gittens, who plays mainly on the left but can also operate across the frontline, has attracted interest from Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich.
Chelsea’s move comes after deciding against a permanent deal for Jadon Sancho, who will return to Manchester United after his loan. The Blues, now managed by Enzo Maresca, are preparing for this month’s expanded Club World Cup tournament, which will feature both Chelsea and Manchester City among the 32-team field.
