President Donald Trump privately expressed admiration for Ukraine’s recent drone strike on Russian air bases, calling it “strong” and “badass,” according to multiple sources who spoke with Axios.

Though Trump has publicly emphasized the need for a ceasefire, he reportedly told confidants he was impressed by Ukraine’s precision and boldness in the attack, which targeted long-range bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons. “Pretty strong,” he told one associate. Another source confirmed, “He thought it was badass.”

Despite the praise, Trump remains wary of the potential fallout. He spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin after the attack, who, according to Trump, vowed a forceful response. “It was a good conversation,” Trump said, “but not a conversation that will lead to immediate peace.”

The White House has expressed concern that such actions could escalate the war further. “This is a very dangerous point,” a U.S. official warned, highlighting fears of nuclear escalation.

Still, Trump, who aims to broker a peace deal, privately acknowledged Ukraine’s move as an underdog’s bold strike. “You’ve got a chihuahua inflicting real damage on a much bigger dog,” one adviser summed up his reaction.
