FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has warned that no one will escape tax obligations in Abuja, stressing that “heaven will not fall” if enforcement is applied.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that no individual or group is above the law regarding tax payment in Abuja, warning that tax evaders will face consequences.

Speaking at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, during the 2025 Distinguished Personality Lecture titled “The Nigeria of Our Dreams,” Wike emphasized courage and capacity as key leadership traits.

“I will touch you if the right thing is not done… they didn’t appoint me as a minister for a beauty contest,” Wike said, noting that affluent areas like Maitama and Asokoro are populated by the wealthy who must fulfil their tax obligations.

“There’s no poor man in Central Business District. They say they’re untouchable—I say no!”

Wike stressed that effective leadership requires bold decisions for national progress and urged citizens to support leaders rather than engage in destructive criticism. He reaffirmed his resolve to end impunity and ensure equity in the FCT’s tax system.
