In 20 of the countries, at least half of the respondents had a negative view of Israel.
A new Pew Research Center survey reveals that international views of Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are predominantly negative, especially among younger and politically left-leaning populations. Conducted in 24 countries from January to April, the poll found a median of 62% unfavorable views of Israel, with only 29% favorable.
In 20 countries, at least half of respondents viewed Israel negatively. The highest disapproval came from Turkey (93%), followed by Indonesia (80%), Japan (79%), and several European nations. However, Kenya and Nigeria were outliers, with favorable views at 50% and 59% respectively.
In the U.S., 53% had an unfavorable opinion of Israel, with left-leaning Americans expressing the strongest disapproval — 74% compared to 30% on the right. Netanyahu’s approval ratings were low globally, except in Kenya and Nigeria.
Among Israelis, 58% said Israel is not respected internationally. “The results are in line with other surveys that have found that young and left-leaning Americans are increasingly hostile to Israel,” Pew noted.
