Romanian criminals are now paying $2,000 to be smuggled out of the US by Mexican guides amid fears of deportation under Donald Trump’s tough immigration stance. According to reports from Gândul, Romanian gang members are choosing to flee the US after years of accumulating wealth through non-violent crimes like card cloning and theft, avoiding arrest by steering clear of violence.
With enforcement agents deporting migrants directly from the streets, some Romanian criminals are using the same smugglers who brought them in—now in reverse. Sources say the migrants typically meet guides in Los Angeles, are transported to the Mexican border, and driven to Tijuana.
“They’re protecting their money,” a source said. At the Romanian embassy in Mexico, they claim to have lost documents and are issued papers to return to Europe.
Despite carrying large sums of money, the migrants are not robbed, sources claim, as doing so would jeopardize the smugglers’ lucrative business.
