“I am not Rotimi Amaechi’s spokesperson, nor do I have his phone number. That’s a fabrication…”
Veteran journalist and Arise News anchor, Dr. Reuben Abati, has denied claims made by Lere Olayinka, a media aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who accused him of soliciting money and acting as a proxy for former Minister Rotimi Amaechi.
“I am not Rotimi Amaechi’s spokesperson, nor do I have his phone number. That’s a fabrication,” Abati said in a statement.
Olayinka’s accusations were made live on The Morning Show, where he also questioned Abati’s absence, implying it was intentional.
Abati clarified he was attending a prior engagement—reviewing Oprah Benson – Live and Legend—and dismissed Olayinka’s comments as defamatory.
On the EFCC probe mentioned by Olayinka, Abati said, “It was procedural. The EFCC, under Magu, later issued a formal apology.”
He also addressed the late Buruji Kashamu allegations, noting, “No court ever convicted him.”
Abati closed by thanking colleagues and his wife: “Your strength remains my anchor.”
