June 12: FG declares Thursday public holiday for 2025 Democracy Day

The holiday was declared by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, June 12, a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 2025 Democracy Day celebration.

This was announced on Sunday in a statement by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior. She stated that the holiday was declared by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

Mr Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians on 26 uninterrupted years of democratic governance, describing June 12 as a symbol of national unity and resilience.

“June 12 represents our historic journey to building a nation where truth and justice reign and peace is sustained and our future assured,” he said.

He praised the strength and courage of Nigerians and reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to the democratic ideals of justice, freedom, and self-determination.

“The last 26 years tell the story of our resilience, strength and courage and a hope renewed than ever,” he added.
