Kaduna Anglican Bishop Timothy Yahaya has criticised early 2027 election campaigns, urging Tinubu and governors to focus on governance instead of power retention.
The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Kaduna, Most Reverend Timothy Yahaya, has urged President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly, and state governors to prioritise governance over premature 2027 election campaigns.
He criticised the political class for focusing on re-election barely two years into their current terms, warning that the trend undermines good governance.
“Before this regime is two years in office, they started politicking, I think this is a bad culture for governance in our country,” he said. “It’s very insulting, very degrading and other civilised climes will think we are jokers in this country.”
Yahaya also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to consider restricting campaign activities until nine months before elections.
He criticised opposition politicians who defect to the ruling APC, describing them as opportunists without ideological convictions.
“They are all opportunists… anywhere the national cake is, they want to eat from it,” he said, accusing them of pursuing power for personal gain rather than national interest.
