The reluctance of the president to intervene in the two states currently under the PDP rule is further affecting the cohesion in the president’s camp.

President Bola Tinubu’s South-West political base is showing signs of division, with Lagos, Osun, and Oyo states becoming flashpoints of discontent within the ruling APC.

The president’s strained relationship with Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and internal party conflicts in Osun and Oyo are threatening regional cohesion. In Osun, former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s camp is displeased with plans to deny him another gubernatorial bid, while in Oyo, a rift persists between Minister Adebayo Adelabu and Senator Teslim Folarin over 2027 ambitions.

The pan-Yoruba group Afenifere recently slammed Tinubu’s administration, declaring that “renewed hope has turned into a nightmare,” citing regression in socio-economic indicators. This criticism compounds growing unease in the president’s traditional stronghold.Analysts warn that Tinubu’s reluctance to mediate these disputes could weaken APC’s dominance in the South-West, a critical battleground for the 2027 elections.
