Forest seek UEFA clarity on Palace’s Europa League spot amid ownership concerns

Nottingham Forest have asked UEFA for clarity over Crystal Palace’s Europa League place amid multi-club ownership concerns.

Forest could be promoted to the Europa League if Palace are disqualified due to John Textor’s links to Lyon.

Nottingham Forest have contacted UEFA to express concerns over Crystal Palace’s Europa League qualification, citing potential breaches of multi-club ownership rules. Palace earned a spot by winning the FA Cup but face scrutiny due to American investor John Textor, whose Eagle Football owns 43% of Palace and 77% of French side Lyon—also qualified for the Europa League.

UEFA rules prohibit one entity from holding majority voting rights in two competing clubs. Lyon, finishing higher in Ligue 1, would take priority if a breach is found.

Forest, who placed seventh in the Premier League, could move into the Europa League from the Europa Conference League play-off round if Palace are barred.

Palace argue they operate independently, with no staff, strategy, or commercial links to Lyon. Forest previously navigated similar issues by altering their ownership structure before UEFA’s 1 March deadline.

UEFA and Palace declined to comment, while a ruling could face appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport if contested.
