“The issue is that it wasn’t properly convened… the National Secretary didn’t issue any notice,” a BoT member said, insisting the PDP must uphold its constitution.

ABUJA — Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have expressed conflicting views following calls by Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, and a group of stakeholders to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to the South.

At a meeting in Abuja, Wike and the group also reaffirmed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary, a move some top PDP figures supported, while others urged caution.

Backing the group’s position, Mr. Jones Onyereri, a BoT member, criticized the last National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. “The issue is that it wasn’t properly convened… the National Secretary didn’t issue any notice,” he said, insisting the PDP must uphold its constitution.

However, former Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George, urged restraint. “We do not discuss family matters in the marketplace… I urge all of them to hold their fire,” he warned.

National Organising Secretary Umar Bature aligned with Wike’s group, stating: “What they said in the communiqué isn’t different from what the party believes in.”

Meanwhile, Ayodele Fayose warned, “Without urgent action, the PDP is headed for serious decline,” reaffirming loyalty to the party but describing its current trajectory as dangerous.

The party’s spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, said PDP will respond officially in due time.
