He challenged Obi to provide evidence of government infiltration and accused him of failing to offer leadership.
The Barrister Julius Abure-led Labour Party (LP) has dismissed allegations made by Peter Obi linking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu to the party’s internal leadership crisis.
In a statement issued Tuesday in Abuja, National Secretary of the LP faction, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, accused Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti of orchestrating and sustaining the crisis.
“It is therefore pertinent to put on record that the problem with the Labour Party was not created by the ruling party (APC). Rather, the problem… was created and sustained by Peter Obi and Dr. Alex Otti,” Ibrahim said.
He challenged Obi to provide evidence of government infiltration and accused him of failing to offer leadership. “Obi failed in providing leadership for the party. He should own up to his mistakes.”
Ibrahim also referenced the party’s past support for Obi, saying, “The same leadership… now accused of being infiltrated… stood with Peter Obi throughout the tribunal process.”
He criticized the formation of a caretaker committee in Umuahia by Obi and Otti, calling it “illegal and unconstitutional.”
The statement further addressed recent verbal spats between party leaders, urging restraint and unity moving forward.
“We call on Peter Obi and other aggrieved members… to accept that Barrister Julius Abure’s leadership has come to stay—and nothing can change that,” Ibrahim concluded.
