Abdulrahman Bello, the key suspect in the murder of Hafsoh Lawal, told a Kwara High Court he dismembered her body alone after an alcohol binge, claiming she died during sex from an asthma attack.
Abdulrahman Bello, the prime suspect in the murder of Hafsoh Lawal, a final-year student of Kwara State College of Education, told a state High Court on Wednesday that he alone dismembered her body after taking alcohol.
Testifying before Justice Hannah Ajayi, Bello claimed Hafsoh died from an asthma attack during sex. “I went out to get an inhaler for her… By the time I came back into the room, she had died,” he said, adding that he later cut her body using a knife and cutlass found in his Ilorin apartment.
He denied killing her or preserving her body parts for rituals, saying, “I was afraid of her father.” He also alleged that police tortured him into confessing to poisoning and strangling her.
During cross-examination, the DPP said human parts found in his home hadn’t decomposed after five days due to alcohol preservation. Bello denied this.
Justice Ajayi adjourned the case to July 2 for final adoption of written addresses from both parties.
