“The N39bn used to renovate the international conference centre would have been better used to issues that would benefit the school children who are in dire need of such investment.”
Labour Party’s Peter Obi has criticized the Tinubu administration’s N35bn renovation of the International Conference Centre (ICC), calling it a misplacement of priorities. The facility was renamed after President Bola Tinubu by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, Obi accused the government of neglecting the poor while favoring the rich. He announced a N6m donation for a borehole, solar power, and a laboratory at Chibok’s Government Girls Secondary School, where Boko Haram abducted students in 2014.
Obi argued that the ICC funds should have been invested in education. “N39bn would have procured thousands of computers for schools,” he said. “Children are tomorrow’s leaders; this is a waste.” He stressed that education remains the best investment for national development.
