“When he called us he was just more worried about my other brother, like ‘Find Ajay, find Ajay.’ That’s all he cares about at the moment.”
A British man, Vishwashkumar Ramesh, has miraculously survived the Air India crash that claimed 241 lives, including 169 Indian nationals and 52 other Britons. Ramesh, who was in seat 11A on the London-bound Boeing 787-8, walked away from the wreckage shortly after the plane crashed following take-off in Ahmedabad, western India. He is the only known survivor.
His brother, Nayan Kumar Ramesh, told BBC News, “He himself has no idea how he survived, how he got out the plane,” adding that Vishwashkumar was primarily concerned about locating their other brother, Ajay, who was also onboard. “That’s all he cares about at the moment,” Nayan said.
Footage circulating online shows Ramesh walking away from the crash site covered in blood, later seen receiving treatment in hospital where he was visited by Indian interior minister Amit Shah. A relative, Jay, told PA: “He’s got some injuries on his face. He was painted in blood. He’s doing well I think. It’s a big shock.”
