Judicial activities in Ondo State came to a halt on Friday, June 13, 2025, as the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) began an indefinite strike over the state government’s failure to implement financial autonomy for the judiciary.
Judicial activities in Ondo State were completely halted on Friday as the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Ondo branch, began an indefinite strike. Court premises, including the Akure Division of the State High Court and the Magistrates’ Court, were locked, denying access to judges, lawyers, and litigants.
JUSUN Chairman Oluwafemi Afolabi confirmed the industrial action, saying, “We have directed all our members to stay off duty starting from today, June 13, 2025, till further directive, and to adhere strictly to the industrial action guidelines.”
The strike follows the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The union is demanding full implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that grants financial autonomy to the judiciary.
“Following this, all courts across the 18 LGAs have been shut down and would be affected by the strike,” Afolabi added.
The strike has brought all judicial operations in Ondo State to a standstill.
