MINNEAPOLIS —Two Minnesota state lawmakers were gravely wounded in separate but coordinated shootings early Saturday morning, in what officials are calling a “targeted” attack.

A source told ABC News that state Senator John Hoffman of Champlin and state Representative Melissa Hortman of Brooklyn Park were shot at their homes. Authorities believe the assailant impersonated a law enforcement officer to gain access.

The incidents occurred just hours apart in Champlin and Brooklyn Park — suburban cities located roughly 8 miles north of Minneapolis.

“I’ve been briefed this morning on an ongoing situation involving targeted shootings in Champlin and Brooklyn Park,” Governor Tim Walz posted on social media. “The Minnesota Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement are on the scene. We will share more information soon.”

Walz has activated the State Emergency Operations Center in response. Officials have not released further details on the suspect or motive as the investigation remains active.
