A suspect in the shootings of two Minnesota lawmakers was a Walz appointee and heads a global security firm.

The suspect in the shootings of Minnesota Democratic lawmakers John Hoffman and Melissa Hortman has been identified as Vance Luther Boelter, a 57-year-old appointee of Governor Tim Walz and head of an international security firm.

Governor Walz confirmed on Saturday that Rep. Hortman and her husband were killed in the early-morning attack, while Sen. Hoffman and his wife were wounded.

Boelter, a former member of the Governor’s Workforce Development Board, reportedly dressed as a police officer during the assaults. His security firm, Praetoria, features personnel in police-style uniforms.

Authorities recovered “No Kings” flyers and a manifesto listing other politicians from the suspect’s abandoned vehicle.

“He immediately fired at officers,” said BCA Superintendent Drew Evans, describing Boelter’s escape after an exchange of gunfire.

The Blaze’s Julio Rosas and multiple outlets confirmed Boelter’s identity.

Walz called the incidents “targeted political violence.” A statewide manhunt is ongoing, and all “No Kings” protests in Minnesota have been cancelled.
