A Nigerian healthcare assistant in the UK has been jailed for sexually assaulting a vulnerable patient at York Hospital. Adewale Kudabo, 47, was sentenced to 12 months by York Crown Court after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual assault.
Prosecutors said Kudabo kissed the immobile woman on the lips after giving her a bed bath, and again days later despite her protest. “She was in a lot of pain and almost completely dependent on others for her care,” said Prosecutor Henry Fernandez.
Kudabo claimed he kissed her forehead “in keeping with his job,” but the judge disagreed. The victim reported lasting trauma, including “helplessness, fear and loss of trust.”
Judge Alex Menary told Kudabo, “You abused the trust placed in you as a carer. I am satisfied the kiss was on the lips.”
Kudabo will serve six months in prison and six on licence, and has been placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
