The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, visited Benue State on Monday amid ongoing attacks by gunmen. General Musa, speaking during an assessment at Yelwata, condemned the killings and said the military would intensify efforts to end the violence. “In my estimation, it is one killing, too many,” he said, promising new strategies and greater collaboration with communities. He added, “We need everybody to be part of it… even within us, people used to compromise and give out information.” Musa vowed to also visit Nasarawa, citing porous borders.

IGP Egbetokun offered condolences to Governor Hyacinth Alia and pledged more police deployment. “These mindless acts of terror are not just attacks on Benue people but… on the entire nation,” he stated. Governor Alia described the attacks as unprovoked and thanked security agencies for their support, expressing hope that the visit would lift the people’s spirits.
