A political fracas erupted during the APC North-East Consultative Meeting in Gombe over Vice President Kashim Shettima’s 2027 candidacy. According to party insiders, some APC governors are quietly opposing Shettima’s re-selection as President Tinubu’s running mate, citing the “ineffectiveness of the Muslim-Muslim ticket” and branding Shettima a “dull politician.” Alternative candidates, including Yakubu Dogara and Governor Inuwa Yahaya, are reportedly being considered.

Despite attempts to suppress the conflict through private meetings, tensions surfaced after APC Vice Chairman (North East), Mustapha Salihu, endorsed Tinubu for re-election without mentioning Shettima. This omission sparked outrage at the meeting.

Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, downplayed the incident, saying, “Salihu is entitled to his political opinion.” Meanwhile, Oliver Okpala, aide to APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, condemned the violence and emphasized unity: “The President and Vice President are constitutionally joined as one ticket… yet they still refused to listen.”
