Speculation mounted Tuesday over potential U.S. support in Israeli strikes

Speculation mounted Tuesday over potential U.S. support in Israeli strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities, particularly the fortified Fordo site near Qom.

Israel lacks the bunker-busting bombs necessary to destroy deeply buried sites like Fordo, which is protected by Russian-made defenses. Only U.S. B-2 bombers can deliver the 30,000-pound GBU 57/B bombs required, raising questions about American assistance.

President Trump met with national security officials Tuesday after leaving the G7 Summit early. He later announced the deployment of F-16s, F-22s, and F-35s in a defensive capacity. “We are not seeking a ceasefire but a real end,” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social, calling for Iran’s “unconditional surrender.”

Israeli journalist Barak Ravid reported Trump privately offered assistance to Prime Minister Netanyahu, though the White House denied this. The Israeli military is reportedly preparing to strike Fordo regardless of U.S. support.

“Israel may significantly set back Iran’s nuclear ambitions,” the Center for Strategic and International Studies stated.
