Kanu, who has been in detention since his arrest in 2021, continues to face charges the defence claims are politically motivated.
Abuja — The Federal Government has officially closed its case against the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, who is standing trial on terrorism and treason-related charges.
Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, representing the prosecution, declared the case closed on Thursday after the fifth prosecution witness, identified as EEE for security reasons, completed cross-examination before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Awomolo said the government was satisfied with the evidence tendered, including alleged broadcasts by Kanu, stating, “I therefore close the case.”
Following the development, lead defence counsel Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, informed the court that the defence would file a no-case submission, indicating their intention to argue that the prosecution had not established a prima facie case.

The court is expected to rule on the no-case submission in the coming weeks.
