Dortmund confirm they’ve spoken to Jamie Gittens about Chelsea interest, with a deal still likely to go through.
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has confirmed talks with winger Jamie Gittens amid Chelsea’s ongoing push to sign him.
Speaking during the Club World Cup, Kehl told Fussball Transfers that discussions with the 20-year-old have taken place following Chelsea’s failed bid earlier this month.
“We’ve had one or two conversations with Jamie in the last few days,” Kehl said. “He’s professional enough to know he has to perform. That’s also in his nature. Jamie will be important for us in this tournament. And we’ll see what happens after that. But I don’t see him as negative.”
Chelsea had hoped to complete a €65m deal for Gittens before the Club World Cup, but talks broke down when the Blues refused to meet Dortmund’s asking price. The failed move reportedly left Gittens frustrated, as he’s keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.
Despite the delay, Ruhr Nachrichten reports that Dortmund remain “very optimistic” a deal will be struck soon, with negotiations between the two clubs ongoing.
