Top Democrat says US intel has no evidence Iran is building a nuclear weapon

US intelligence still finds no evidence Iran is building a nuclear weapon.

US intelligence agencies maintain that Iran is not developing nuclear weapons, despite its enriched uranium stockpile, according to Senator Mark Warner, vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. Warner said this assessment, unchanged since March, was reaffirmed to lawmakers following Israel’s recent military strikes on Iranian facilities.

President Donald Trump contradicted this view Tuesday, claiming Tehran was “very close” to acquiring nuclear weapons. His statement opposes earlier testimony by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who said Iran “is not building” a bomb.

“And we got reconfirmed… Monday of this week, that the intelligence hasn’t changed,” Warner told MSNBC.

He criticized Trump’s comments as “foreign policy by tweet,” and added, “you’ve got the president basically dismissing all of the intelligence.”

Asked about Gabbard’s statement, Trump replied, “I do not care what she said.”

Israel has targeted Iran’s enrichment infrastructure, including Natanz, as tensions escalate. Tehran has vowed retaliation if attacked.
