Farmers in Augie Local Government Area (LGA) of Kebbi State have received death threats from suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group, warning against the use of mechanised farming equipment.

According to reports by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the group has vowed to execute anyone found replacing cattle with machines. The warning has triggered fear and halted mechanisation efforts in the area.

“Now, the terrorists are dictating how we should farm,” a local source said. “They forbid us from using machines. When we use cattle, they seize them. We’re farming both for sustenance and commercial purposes.”

An intelligence source confirmed the threats had been circulated in several villages. Community members, already burdened by cattle rustling and previous attacks, are calling for urgent intervention by security forces.

In April, at least 13 vigilantes were killed in Morai village, Augie LGA, during a failed attempt to recover stolen livestock.

Police spokesperson Nafiu Abubakar said he would investigate the development.
