Dr. Hassan Boguma condemned the effort to oust Shettima, calling it “reckless” and evoking past betrayals of Northeastern leaders.
A high-stakes APC stakeholders’ meeting in Gombe meant to endorse the Tinubu/Shettima 2027 ticket descended into chaos after some Borno politicians subtly pushed to replace Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Tensions erupted when APC Northeast Vice Chairman Mustapha Salihu endorsed President Tinubu but omitted Shettima’s name. The omission sparked outrage from Borno delegates who chanted “Shettima!” and attacked Salihu, forcing security to evacuate him.
Despite calls for unity, party leaders remain divided. Hon. Ali Dalori declared the Tinubu/Shettima ticket “non-negotiable,” while others accused Salihu of a pattern of disrespect.
Dr. Hassan Boguma condemned the effort to oust Shettima, calling it “reckless” and evoking past betrayals of Northeastern leaders. “Shettima must stay. The Northeast must rise,” he warned.
The incident has exposed deep fractures in the APC’s Northeast bloc, threatening to derail cohesion ahead of 2027.
