The Israeli military announced on Saturday the assassination of three senior Iranian commanders, including Mohammed Said Izadi, a Quds Force official overseeing Iran’s ties to Hamas and other regional militias.

Izadi reportedly knew in advance about Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel. Israeli forces struck his safe house in Qum, Iran.

Behnam Shahriyari, another Quds Force commander, was also killed. “Izadi and Shahriyari were at the forefront of Iran’s project to export war into Israeli territory,” said Israeli military spokesman Effie Defrin. “We eliminated them inside Iran.” Shahriyari had been sanctioned by the U.S. since 2011 for arming Hezbollah.

A third commander, Aminpour Joudaki, responsible for drone operations, was killed in a separate strike.

Izadi had been sanctioned by both the U.S. and U.K. for funding Hamas. He remained in contact with Hamas leaders and facilitated weapons transfers after the Gaza war began, according to Israeli officials.

Iran has not yet responded.
