Gunmen have hijacked a commercial bus belonging to Benue Links Transport Company and kidnapped all passengers on board in Benue State. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at Eke, along the Otukpo-Otukpa Road in Okpokwu Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers robbed the passengers before taking them into the nearby bush. Benue State APC Chairman, Comrade Austin Agada, who passed the scene shortly after the incident, alerted security forces.
A joint team of security agencies is currently searching the area to rescue the victims. The Benue State Police Command confirmed the abduction and stated efforts are underway to apprehend the culprits.
The attack raises fresh concerns about security in Benue, especially following President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit where he instructed top security officials to act against rising violence.
“We urge the security agencies to expedite action and rescue the victims,” said Comrade Agada. “The people of Benue State deserve to feel safe.”
