Iran has accused Israel of carrying out airstrikes on its territory despite a ceasefire announcement made by U.S. President Donald Trump. The Iranian armed forces claimed that Israel launched multiple attacks early Tuesday, hours after the truce was declared.
“The Zionist regime launched three waves of attacks on sites in Iranian territory until 9:00 am (0530 GMT) today,” a spokesman for the armed forces command said on state television. The spokesman did not provide further details regarding the targets or casualties.
The reported strikes raise concerns about the effectiveness of the ceasefire agreement aimed at de-escalating tensions between the long-time adversaries. The U.S. had earlier brokered the truce in hopes of halting months of escalating conflict.
There has been no official response from the Israeli government regarding the Iranian claims. The international community has called for restraint from both sides to prevent a broader regional conflict.
