“We remain vigilant and proactive,” Comptroller Patrick Ntadi said, highlighting efforts to combat smuggling.
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Western Marine Command (WMC), has seized contraband valued at N352 million between April 24 and June 24, 2025. Comptroller Patrick Ntadi, speaking Tuesday in Lagos, revealed the seizures during the handover of 481 loaves of cannabis sativa—worth N50 million—to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The items, intercepted around the Badagry Waterways, include 2,017 bags of parboiled rice (N212 million), cannabis, sugar, foreign textiles, and boats. “We remain vigilant and proactive, continually updating our strategies to counter evolving smuggling tactics,” Ntadi said.
He credited the success to enhanced intelligence, inter-agency collaboration, and increased patrols along the coast. Ntadi also praised the Nigeria Navy for intercepting smuggled rice, emphasizing the need for public vigilance.
“Our collective efforts are essential in safeguarding our country’s economic integrity and social order,” he added.
NDLEA’s Emmanuel Morrison, who received the cannabis, commended Customs for its ongoing cooperation and vowed to launch further investigations into the seizure.
