In a stunning political shift, New York City Mayor Eric Adams has launched an independent re-election bid—just minutes after progressive challenger Zohran Mamdani secured the Democratic primary victory.
He writes, “This is it. The fight for New York’s future begins tonight. Join us—knock doors, make calls, chip in. We’re continuing to build a city that works for everyone. And we are not turning back.”

New York City Mayor Eric Adams is moving forward with his independent re-election campaign after state Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic primary for mayor, with former Gov. Andrew Cuomo conceding the race.
Adams hinted in April that he would skip the Democratic primary and run for reelection as an independent, effectively being pushed out of his own party amid ongoing federal corruption charges and political turmoil.
Mamdani was on the brink of a stunning Democratic primary victory Tuesday, setting up a November general election between the progressive assemblyman and the embattled incumbent mayor.
