“I went to several of opposition coalition meetings… I still believe this president can fix these things, but failure might cause me to move.”
Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has hinted at a possible defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) if President Bola Tinubu fails to address Nigeria’s worsening situation.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Tuesday night, Ndume revealed he has attended several opposition coalition meetings aimed at unseating Tinubu in 2027 but remains hopeful the president can still deliver.
“I went to several of their meetings,” Ndume said. “I still believe this president can fix these things, but failure might cause me to move. The overloaded ship will sink.”
The senator criticized recent defections to the APC as unprincipled, calling it “indirect stick-and-carrot politics.”
Ndume warned that overburdening the party could push it toward collapse: “If you overload the ship, it will probably capsize, and if it capsizes, you lose everybody.”
Despite his criticism, Ndume stressed he is not yet ready to “jump from the frying pan into the fire,” adding that his continued support hinges on Tinubu’s performance.
