Donald Trump has been nominated for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize following his role in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

U.S. President Donald Trump has been nominated for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. Republican Congressman Buddy Carter, who submitted the nomination, praised Trump for playing an “extraordinary and historic role” in preventing a wider conflict.

“President Trump’s influence was instrumental in forging a swift agreement that many believed to be impossible,” Carter wrote.

However, Ukrainian lawmaker Oleksandr Merezhko withdrew his earlier nomination of Trump, citing disappointment over Trump’s inaction in Ukraine. “I have lost any sort of faith and belief in Trump and his ability to secure a ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv,” he told Newsweek.

The ceasefire, announced two days after Trump ordered U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, has also drawn international criticism. Pakistan, initially supportive, condemned the strikes as “deeply disturbing.”

Trump defended his diplomatic record, saying, “They won’t give me a Nobel Peace Prize because they only give it to liberals.”
