Samuel Anyanwu has resumed as PDP national secretary, with the party shelving its NEC meeting amid leadership realignments.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reinstated Samuel Anyanwu as its national secretary following high-level meetings and consultations with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Acting National Chairman Umar Damagun announced the decision on Wednesday in Abuja, saying, “Anyanwu is resuming as the National Secretary… it was a critical decision.”
This comes after INEC raised concerns over conflicting correspondences from the PDP, naming three different individuals as secretary in recent months.
Present at the press briefing were Governor Bala Mohammed, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and other party stakeholders.
Mr Anyanwu, who ran unsuccessfully for governor in Imo State without resigning from his position, was previously replaced by Sunday Udeh-Okoye.
Following court defeats, Anyanwu’s reinstatement marks a resolution in the party’s internal leadership crisis.
The PDP has cancelled its NEC meeting and plans an expanded caucus instead.
A follow-up meeting with INEC is scheduled for Thursday.
