The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has received 110 letters of intent from associations seeking political party registration, including two groups using the acronym “ADA”.
The Advanced Democratic Alliance lists Ahmadu Suleiman and Zipporah Pus Miracle as protem chairman and secretary. The other, All Democratic Alliance, is reportedly backed by opposition figures including Atiku Abubakar and Nasir el-Rufai, with Akin Ricketts and Abdullahi Musa Elayo as leaders.
“As of Monday, 23rd June 2025, the commission has received letters of intent from 110 associations that wish to register as political parties,” said INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu. “We are diligently processing the requests in line with the procedure outlined in the law.”
Sam Olumekun, INEC’s voter education commissioner, clarified these are only “expressions of interest”. INEC has not yet confirmed if either ADA group meets legal requirements.
A similar naming dispute in 2013 led to the rejection of the African Peoples Congress.
