Former military president General Ibrahim Babangida has emphasized the need for strong voices to champion Northern Nigeria’s development

Former military president General Ibrahim Babangida has emphasized the need for strong voices to champion Northern Nigeria’s development and defend its interests. He made the statement when receiving officials of the Arewa Cohesion for Peace, Unity and Development Initiative at his Hilltop residence in Minna on Wednesday.

Babangida praised the movement and offered his support, highlighting its importance at a critical point in Nigeria’s history.

Chairman of the group’s Board of Trustees and former Sokoto governor, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, said the movement, set to launch on July 10 in Kaduna, aims to promote unity and good governance in the North. “We need unity; we need peace in this country,” he said.

Bafarawa also urged political inclusivity and rejected blaming any region for Nigeria’s challenges, saying, “All this stupidity of calling the North or South doesn’t make sense to any Nigerian.”

Director General Dr. Abdullahi Idris reiterated the movement’s goal of Northern development.
