The closed-door meeting marked the first time Governor Fubara was seen with President Tinubu since the March 18 declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers.

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday met with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule, and other lawmakers at the Presidential Villa in a bid to resolve the state’s protracted political crisis.

The closed-door meeting marked the first time Governor Fubara was seen with President Tinubu since the March 18 declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers. At that time, Tinubu suspended the governor, his deputy Mrs Ngozi Odu, and the assembly, citing their failure to cooperate and rising security threats.

Thursday’s meeting signalled a potential breakthrough in reconciliation efforts, with photographs showing Tinubu, Wike, and Fubara smiling together.

Sources at the presidency said: “The meeting helped to reconcile the factions involved in the dispute that has paralysed governance in the oil-rich state.”
